Cut flowers - how to keep them fresh longer

Cut flowers - how to keep them fresh longer.

We are totally in love with our vases. But the whole thing only really comes together with a few beautiful flowers. Here you can find out how to get the best out of your flowers and which arrangement to choose so that they really come into their own.

Bye, Bacteria

Of course, you want your flowers to give you joy for as long as possible. To maintain their freshness, you should above all minimize bacterial growth in the vase. This can be done by cleaning the vase at the beginning and when changing the water (every 2-3 days, depending on the temperature).

It is also best to place the vase in a consistently cooler place and avoid too much heat, as this promotes bacterial growth.

The Basics

To ensure that your flowers can fully absorb the water, it is best to cut about 1 cm off the stem at the beginning. Also remove any excess leaves. Ideally, do so so that there is no green foliage below the edge of the vase, as this is particularly susceptible to bacteria.

Then fill the vase one third full with cool to lukewarm tap water. If you now add plant food, this will give your flowers a real energy boost.

The choice of vase

Vases, of course, come in every conceivable shape.

When choosing a vase, think about how the flowers will look in it. Generally speaking, tall vases allow the stems to stand upright, while round, wide vases tend to have stems that fall apart.

You can also create exciting compositions with mini vases and individual flowers.

Ceramics and flowers - a perfect match

The greenery you bring home really comes into its own in vases made of natural materials and with natural colors. Almost as if you were in the middle of nature, right?

arrangement

In general, arranging flowers is like art - you can't really go wrong. We still have a few inspirations.

It can be wild! You can achieve a balanced mix by arranging different varieties and stems of different lengths next to each other. This makes the arrangement asymmetrical and appears natural and relaxed.

A little tip: Do you already know the cross technique? You place the stems one after the other in the vase like a tepee tent. You can place soft stems closer to the edge so that they can hang down gently. Long stems and branches create height and volume. It is best to place these last as a statement.

vase placement

Once the arrangement is complete, all that's missing is the right place for your vase. Take a look at where your flowers could get the full attention. Perhaps an otherwise quiet corner of your apartment? Perhaps on a small table in the middle of the room? Also think about placing the vase on the floor, maybe even on a few books.
